Not skipping a beat, the 2016 Reckoning picks up right where 2015 left off with boisterous and brooding aromas of sweet black currants, dusty black cherries, and bacon fat. A juicy concentration of raspberry and pie filling are contrasted by tobacco leaf, black tea, and cracked black pepper background that add a herbal freshness to the aromatics. While rich and smoky on the nose, this Syrah blend lives up to its reputation with its hallmark savory tones and rich viscosity on the palate. Cranberry juice, cassis, and nutmeg dominate a sweet entry as a velvety tannin broadens into the mid-palate, yielding to more earthy flavors of savory mushroom and charred cedar. A balanced and unassertive acidity mingles among the complex flavors and carries well into the finish of black olives and chalky limestone. Welcome back, our old friend.
